The Greenhouse is a Garden plot unlocked at Garden Level 7, after completing the Carpenter visitor's offer and getting the Greenhouse Blueprint.
Crops in the Greenhouse grow while the player is offline, need watering, and are harvested once mature.
Each crop gives its Crop Effects to crops in the 4 orthogonally adjacent slots (not diagonals), never to itself.
Effect values: Harvest Boost +20% yield; Improved Harvest Boost +30% yield (replaces Harvest Boost); XP Boost +20% farming XP; Improved XP Boost +30%; Water Retain +50%; Improved Water Retain +100%; Harvest Loss -20% yield; XP Loss -20% farming XP; Water Drain -30% water.
Immunity blocks negative effects; Effect Spread passes a crop's other buffs and debuffs on to its neighbours; Bonus Drops makes harvests also roll the Harvest Bounty pool.
Base crop yields and effects: Wheat 72 (+1 Seeds), 8 stages, Harvest Boost; Carrot 175, 8, XP Boost; Potato 150, 8, Immunity; Pumpkin 68, 11, Bonus Drops; Sugar Cane 136, 8, Improved XP Boost + Harvest Loss; Melon Slice 320, 11, Water Retain; Cactus 132, 8, Improved Water Retain + Harvest Loss; Cocoa Beans 120, 6, Immunity; Red/Brown Mushroom 30 each (unconfirmed), 6, Improved Harvest Boost + Water Drain; Nether Wart 108, 8, Improved Harvest Boost + XP Loss; Sunflower 232, 15, Bonus Drops; Moonflower 232, 15, Bonus Drops; Wild Rose 200, 15, Effect Spread.
Every base crop gives 320 Farming XP when harvested.
A growth stage takes 4 hours at baseline; timer in seconds = 14400 / (1 + 0.025*unique crops + 0.0025*Crop Growth + 0.001*Greenhouse Speed attribute + 0.05*growth-speed upgrade tier, or 0.50 at tier 9). Fully boosted it is 1h 41m 3s.
Each unique non-mutated crop growing in any Greenhouse gives +3% yield and +2.5% growth speed to all crops, up to 12 types (+36% yield); Sunflower/Moonflower count as one type, as do Red/Brown Mushroom.
A crop loses 2-3 water per growth stage; with negative water it may fail to advance a stage; at -100 water it becomes a Dead Plant.
Effects on a crop are locked in at the moment it first becomes harvestable.
Yield buffs are additive, except Evergreen Chip (+2-60% base crops), which multiplies and only applies to base crops, not mutations. The Plant Yield upgrade gives +2-20%.
Mutations appear on an empty soil slot when the right crops surround it within 1 block; the Mutations list gives each mutation's growth surface (Farmland, Soul Sand, Sand, Mycelium, End Stone, Dirt).
Spawn chance uses staff-quoted weights (mostly 30 for common, 25 for most others, 20 for Devourer/Glasscorn/Phantomleaf/Timestalk, 6 Lonelily, 5 Godseed, 0 for special cases) scaled by how many of the surrounding blocks are crops; Dead Plants and Fermento count as crops, Fire does not.
For multi-block mutations (2x2, 3x3) the required counts refer to occupied blocks around the whole area, so one large mutation can fill several of the needed blocks.
Most fully grown mutations decay into Dead Plants after a few days (shortest 3 days); some never decay, e.g. Fleshtrap, Magic Jellybean, All-in Aloe.
Harvesting a mutation can drop an Ethereal Vine, used to unlock more Greenhouse slots and then a 2nd (100 vines + 10 Compost Bundles) and 3rd (150 vines + 20 Compost Bundles) Greenhouse.
Mutations can be analyzed in the Crop Analyzer (Underground Lab or by phoning Jake) for Copper; the first analysis gives bonus Copper and counts toward the DNA Analysis milestone.
Mutations fit in the Mutations Sack, whose recipes unlock at DNA Analysis Milestones I, III and V.
Jerryflower is also listed as a mutation (grown from a Fertilized Jerryseed, 10 stages, no effects).
Place crops on the board. Every empty slot shows which mutations its neighbours allow, and every crop shows the effects it gets from the crops beside it. Pick a mutation under Grow to lay out its recipe.
